Giving & Finance

As a family on mission, we believe we are called to transform the culture of our city through extravagant generosity and servant-hearted excellence. We refuse to be shaped by the poverty, greed and corruption of our prevailing culture, rather we desire to walk in the way of Jesus by helping people find meaningful employment, experience a deep sense of vocational calling, find freedom from debt and financial concerns, develop healthy financial management skills and excel in the grace of generous giving.

We aspire to be part of a movement of people that is changing the socioeconomic trajectory of our communities. Our church needs an ever-increasing financial resource base because we can really make a difference in our world! That being said, no one is pressured to give, rather we are invited into the way of Jesus when He said that "it is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35. Our prayer for you is that you will grow into a joyful and generous giver!

Destiny Church is a registered non-profit organization. At Destiny, we believe that people who give deserve to have confidence that every rand makes an impact in our vision to serve the city. For this reason, we adhere to strict financial management procedures and money is handled with integrity and a spirit of excellence.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

How we deal with finances

Here are a few big things about how we deal with finances; our elders or management team will be happy to answer any questions.

Our pastors have elected not to handle money or be signatories on any church payments.

We have a treasurer and a carefully-selected counting team. There are CCTV cameras everywhere money is dealt with. Electronic payments are loaded by an administrator and released by our treasurer who is a member of the congregation and may not be a member of staff or the eldership.

We work on a budget signed off by our leadership team and monitored by our Management Team.

Our budget is designed according to categories that must fit within redetermined percentages.

Salaries are independently determined.

Our senior pastor and wife’s salaries are determined by our elders in consultation with our national Assemblies of God leadership team. Salary brackets are determined using tables and scales that are policy for all our churches nationally. These tables are designed to fit the economic context of the city and the church's growth trajectory. The rest of our staff follow the same procedure but internally.

We are preparing to be audited biennially.

We do regular Financial updates and reports to our members.

This happens in different ways at different times - sometimes on special Sundays and other times in more detail at special meetings.

We practice an open-book policy.

Any member of the church who is in good standing can request detail on our financial records from our Treasurer.

Jeremiah 29:7

‘...seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper...’

Legacy Fund

Every year, Destiny Church celebrates a Legacy offering where we give towards the vision of our church. We believe we are called to bring wholeness and prosperity to our city. Last year we’ve seen great work done through the extravagant generosity of many people. The good works we’ve been able to do as a result are a reminder that our vision has been built on "the obedience of the many rather than the sacrifice of the few." We invite you to join us this September as we commit ourselves to see the Kingdom of God advance through this local church.

During September, we are calling the church to pray, hear, obey and respond with a financial commitment. Legacy funds are accounted for separately and used exclusively for this year's vision objectives. You can give into our Legacy Fund at any time by marking your giving "legacy".

We also have a Scholarship fund, where we aim to finance exceptional young people who would not have the financial means to go to the next level in their tertiary education. For more info, email us at zandi@destiny-church.co.za
